about ICTCA

The International Conference on Theoretical and Computational Acoustics (ICTCA), founded in the USA in 1992, is our routine gathering arranged by invited volunteer Organizing Committee in every 2 years.  The conference seeks to provide a forum for researchers to discuss state-of-the-art developments in theoretical and computational acoustics and related topics, as well as in numerical modeling of the acoustic measurements.  We are looking forward to meeting you and your associates at Monterey in 2023.

In Memory of Dr. Ding Lee

Ding Lee, Ph.D. and Senior Scientist
1925–2016

His Career

Dr. Lee began his career as a System Analyst at Remington-Rand UNIVAC (an acronym for UNIVersal Automatic Computer), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; after variety of working experiences, he settled as a mathematician at the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), formerly known as the Naval Underwater Systems Center, New London, Connecticut. Dr. Lee worked 29 years with NUWC and retired in 2000

His Awards Received

During his career at NUWC, Dr. Lee has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his pioneering research and dynamic leadership in the field of applies mathematics computational ocean acoustics and supercomputing. He was rewarded the U.S. Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the NUWC Decibel Award, the 1997 Rhode Island Governor’s Award, and the Rhode Island House Speaker’s Citation other than the Naval Sea Systems Command Scientist of the Year.

His Contribution

In addition to his pioneering scientific research activities, Dr. Lee has contributed to the acoustic community by creating a forum for active researchers, scholars, students and practitioners from around the world to discuss and disseminate developments and results in various areas of theoretical and computational acoustics.

Dr. Lee founded ICTCA in 1993, a biennial international conference that has been attended by many active researchers and scholars in the field of Theoretical and Computational Acoustics throughout the world. The first ICTCA was held in Mystic, Connecticut in 1993. Afterwards, ICTCA has been rotating around the Americas, Europe, and Asia in every 3 years.

Meanwhile, he also founded JCA in 1993, a quarterly journal with a worldwide circulation that covers a wide variety of subjects in Underwater Acoustics, Aeroacoustics, Seismo Acoustics, Nonlinear Acoustics, Structural Acoustics, Ultrasound, Medical Ultrasound, Architectural Acoustics, Simulations and Computational Techniques.

Dr. Lee will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues around the world as an encouraging mentor, a warmest guider and a great leader with humorous attitude toward all kind of challenges. And his legacy will continue through ICTCA, JCA and effect the scholars in the field from now on to the future.
